An overview of the agricultural situation, the commercial sector, the health situation :

 The agricultural sector * 1 :

 Barelias primarily is an agricultural town, but the reality is one of the most important agricultural areas in Lebanon as an area of agricultural land where about 30 thousand dunums planted various types of grains, especially wheat as well as potatoes, garlic, onions and vegetables .The agricultural production sector attracts  the attention of all vegetables , fruits, and citrus producers in all Lebanese regions ,and there starts the export of Lebanese agricultural production to all Arab markets, and despite all that the problems of Barelias in the agricultural side, and also in  Bekaa   continue to increase for several reasons, including :

 - The lack of an official policy to protect local agricultural production.

- Agricultural credit with the Bank to extend loans to farmers.

 - Increase in the prices of fertilizers, seeds and high wages of labor.

 - High rate of interest on loans. Lack of agricultural extension

- The weakness in agricultural planning .

- Lack of agricultural roads to facilitate access to farm land or to transport grain to be cultivated again.

 Non-effectiveness of agricultural research centers affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture.

- Water scarcity in the summer and the lack of irrigation projects in general.

- Floods caused by the narrow areas along the Litani River in winter, leading to damage to agricultural areas and wide.

 - Lack of agricultural cooperatives for the disposal of domestic production.

Commercial Sector * 2 :

 In addition to the fact that Barelias and its surroundings, an agricultural region,  witnessed in other economic areas, especially in the commercial sector where there are approximately 2000 businesses .

Barelias extended until replaced by the factory which contributed to the payment of trade movement for the better, as well as leading to the heavy demand for banking services.

 In Barelias now there arefour branches of the banks from the first top 20 banks in Lebanon, including :

 Credit Lebanese Bank,

the Lebanese French,

 Beirut and the Arab countries,

Byblos Bank.

 These branches provide all banking services from the appropriations and transfers, withdrawals and deposits in various currencies. 

 These banks can  contribute to the economic growth of the region  if the circumstances allowed it.

 Health status :

  Barelias lacks to a government hospital equipped with modern medical means ,which has been replaced recently by a health center in collaboration with the Municipality of Barelias offering the help of the best doctors in Barelias and the Bekaa region.

 Urban development * 3 :

 In addition to its agricultural interest ,Barelias have seen since the year 1973  an urban development,  because of the increasing number of population and the number of arrivals from the various Lebanese regions to become the headquarters for them permanent residence and work, also extended boom to a vast area of agricultural land because of the lack of housing space.

 The center of the town and the main road has seen widespread vertically and horizontally with great dramatic increase in the number of people and shops. The classification has shown a large part of the territory of Barelias as agricultural land where the ratio of investment is about 5%, which caused a sharp decline in land prices mean while the requested classification  is 40% of the investment surface.
